Picturepark introduces new Business Process Engine for the Content Platform

Aarau, Switzerland – 29th August 2019 – Swiss content system provider Picturepark® have announced the new features, upgrades and changes that will be covered in the September 2019 update, to their Picturepark Content Platform. The release will become generally available, in full, on 23rd September 2019. The update introduces the Business Process Engine, as well as adding improvements to Search, UX, enhanced SDK examples and backend performance.

The update features a key new capability for Business Process Management: the new Business Process Engine. It enables customers and partners to define conditions, based on which third party systems or built-in workflow tasks can be triggered.

An example of usage of the new Business Process Engine includes the power for administrators to add metadata layers, in order to carry out a range of tasks. For example, publishing or archiving content together with specific metadata information, changing permissions to content items depending on specific parameters such as copyright information stored within the metadata fields of such layers. It also includes an enhanced ability for administrators to tag content automatically, flag it for review and more.

“The business process engine is our first step into better support of Business Process Management (BPM) scenarios,” says Urs Brogle, product owner and Director of Engineering. “Whether customers use the Picturepark Content Platform as a standalone system or as a highly integrated content routing hub, this new update helps them automate away the tedious tasks, for which they increasingly lack resources for in today’s competitive market.”

Additional features of Picturepark’s September update also include changes to the download dialogue, enabling users to download multiple content items more easily from within their Content Browser and select their file format. A new field type has also been introduced called the “Trigger Field”, it enables administrators to trigger business rules and execute workflows from within the UI. It also stores timestamp information on the last executions, in addition to which specific user triggered those executions – all accessible via the API too.

Picturepark have also implemented a variety of improvements to the UX and SDKs. This includes aesthetic tweaks such as bringing color-schemes in line to create a holistic user experience. Enhancements to the Typescript SDK allow for sharing via microsites or picking list items from third party integrated systems, among other features. The full set of features, along with screenshot documentation are covered in the September 2019 release notes.
