Video Asset Management

Video has traditionally be treated differently than other digital asset types, but for many organizations, this is no longer an option. The metadata management, rights controls and sharing capabilities of DAM systems are just as useful for video as they are for any other type of content.

DAM Connector for Kaltura enables you to manage video in Picturepark, taking advantage of all the digital asset management prowess of the Picturepark platform. Use Adaptive Metadata to define video content types and provide all the values you need to manage and route those videos where you need them. Add a single tag and the video is uploaded to Kaltura, where it’s processed into as many different formats as you need, and made available for instant global playback using all the content replication and delivery power of Kaltura.

Metadata values from Picturepark can be copied to Kaltura and the value Kaltura provides, such as links to video, are sent back to Picturepark.

You also gain access to advanced video analytics that only Kaltura can provide. See which videos are most popular, which get viewed all the way through, where your viewers are located and more.

Picturepark and Kaltura Video Asset Management

Picturepark metadata is uploaded to Kaltura along with the video, so Kaltura users see information about each video that file names alone can’t provide. The addition of the Kaltura tag is all that’s needed to establish the link between the two systems. (Top image: Picturepark. Bottom image: Kaltura)

Bridge Kaltura to Your Web CMS

If your Picturepark is also connected to Kentico, Sitecore, Typo3, Umbraco or any other Web CMS accessible from Picturepark, your website editors can find and place video embed links without needing accounts on Picturepark or Kaltura.

Playback comes from Kaltura, so it’s always fast and reliable from anywhere in the world. Video size and bandwidth settings are determined in Kaltura, so all your website editors need to decide is which video they want placed where. DAM Connector for Kaltura provides the embed links right inside Picturepark.

Picturepark DAM and Kentico CMS with Kaltura

A video streaming URL is copied from the Kaltura Adaptive Metadata class to the Kentico class, which makes the link available to editors using the Kentico Web CMS. The same link could just as easily be pasted into other CMS systems, such as WordPress or Drupal, or you could use it in a product information management (PIM) system, e-commerce shop or other system from where you need to stream video.

Social Media Video Sharing

Picturepark users can easily grab playback links for sharing videos with prospects and customers or across social media channels. This means your website editors and social media managers have access to video that can increase time-on-site and click-through, all from the same platform they use to find and place still images and text.

It’s also helpful for customer support and training personnel whose work depends on sharing how-to video links. Picturepark Adaptive Metadata defines the purpose of each video, so supporters know what to send in each case.

Picturepark asset class for support materials

An Adaptive Metadata class called Support Video provides the metadata fields that support personnel use to identify how and when a given video should be used. Values like these are unique to each Picturepark, so yours can have any such content classes you need.

Picturepark can also make building online help systems easier by providing system architects with links to all the video content they need. Playback and analytics come from Kaltura, so performance is smooth and you see the data you need to determine which videos are providing the most help.

Video Source Footage and Materials

In addition to managing completed videos, Picturepark is a great resource for managing the source footage and other materials your video editors need to assemble your completed works. Keep all your images, b-roll, audio clips, charts, logos and other video building blocks in one place. Editors can find everything in a single portal, while Adaptive Metadata schemas ensure they see only the relevant metadata values they need to decide what’s suitable and appropriately licensed for their intended purpose.

Picturepark content can be downloaded into video editing systems where it can be placed on timelines. Editors can indicate which projects the content has been used in, so others can see what has been used where.

An Adaptive Metadata class called Source Material provides the metadata fields video editors need to make suitable and legally compliant decisions. Time is saved because there’s no need to hunt down approvals and confirmations. A list of projects in which the content has been used is valuable to everyone.

A Single Enterprise-wide Content Repository

Picturepark serves as an enterprise-wide repository that’s accessible to all permitted users, including your marketing teams, sales, support, creative, video editors and even your partners and customers. The benefit here is that all content, regardless of type, origin or intended purpose, is managed in Picturepark—a single portal that’s available from anywhere.

This is important for video asset management because so much of what goes into a video is often developed for intended use in other projects, such as presentations, websites, social media and e-stores. Reusing this content in your videos can add interest to those clips and save you money that might otherwise be spent on stock footage or materials.

When the entire enterprise shares the same content repository, several benefits are realized:

  • Status audits are reliable – The entire history of the content is in one place, where everyone can see every approval, note or other value assigned to it.
  • Multi-system updates aren’t needed – When your master content is updated in Picturepark, those changes are instantly accessible everywhere, so there’s no need to manually sync content between systems.
  • Content mistakes can be avoided – Picturepark makes it easy for content editors to see when something has already been used in another project, so better decisions can be made. This is especially important for agencies whose clients might be competitors.
  • Content access isn’t filtered – When those producing videos have access to everything, creativity isn’t limited. Who knows when some random Excel chart might make for the perfect motion background or video bumper element.

Adaptive Metadata Schemas

Picturepark is the only digital asset management system that offers metadata schemas that can adapt over time to each piece of content in the system. In short, this means that each asset contains only the metadata values that are needed to find and manage it.

Even better, because Picturepark’s Adaptive Metadata is designed to consider the content of a digital asset, instead of just its file type, you can have any unique metadata fields you need to manage different types of video. For example, event videos might require date and location fields that talking head videos don’t need. Videos for products can have product family-specific metadata, so that freelance editors and others unfamiliar with your operations can properly find and match content.

Picturepark’s DAM Connector for Kaltura connects your corporate and video worlds so both sides can take advantage of what the other has done, and everyone knows which videos have been used in projects, websites or business systems.
